Problem Statement / Definition

COLDMAN IT team wants to re-design their infrastructure to deploy web applications on Hybrid environment with secure and redundant database deployment. COLDMAN previously used on-premises data centers to host their Active Directory and other services properties, all of which had different technologies and processes. COLDMAN wants to deploy the Web application Production, UAT and Dev infrastructure on hybrid mode on cloud and deploy the centralized Active directory administration. The IT Team wants to use the cloud to deploy the web application and secure the infrastructure with robust monitoring system.

Challenge

After a comprehensive RFP and review process with various cloud solutions providers COLDMAN choose the AWS. COLDMAN priorities in choosing a Cloud platform included Cost effective, flexibility, a global infrastructure, technology, as well as a rich ecosystem of members.

COLDMAN IT team has two goals for AWS: Migrate the work load on AWS cloud and set Primary site to AWS infrastructure on hybrid environment.

Proposed Solution

I2k2 Networks team analyses the existing infrastructure and identify that currently they had multiple domain controllers within single domain on different branches and various application workload was running on on-prem datacenter servers.

COLDMAN purchases compatible firewall to setup the site to site VPN with AWS cloud and designed hub and spoke model VPN architecture with Branch offices.

I2k2 Networks team setup the additional domain controller on the cloud and deploy the web server on cloud.

For database High availability we deploy the Database Mirroring with SQL server standard edition. SQL was an alternative option but it requires SQL Enterprises editions which was not cost-effective solution. For On-prem database synchronization we setup the SQL log shipping to on-prem server in case of cloud unavailability internal users can access the application within local environment.

UAT and DEV server was also same domain joined but both the environment was setup on separate databases.

For Monitoring: i2k2 Networks team will deploy Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail, SES to monitor and notify the issues to concern team.

For COLDMAN extending infrastructure to AWS Cloud improves business agility and operational efficiency, with this Hybrid environment deployment COLDMAN user’s will experience seamless experience with various other applications, the infrastructure is very reliable and horizontally scalable and cost effective, If number of concurrent connections will increase, then the AWS auto scaling will automatically increase and decrease the resources as per use.
