Coaxial cable, or coax, is an electric cable that consists of a solid or an inner conductor surrounded by a tubular insulating layer and surrounded by a conductive layer made up of fine woven wire for flexibility, or of a thin metallic foil. Then it covered with a thin insulating layer on the outside.
Coaxial cable was invented in 1929 and first used commercially in 1941. It can transmit the high-frequency signals that are used by cable TV companies between the community antenna, user homes and businesses. It is used by telephone companies also from their central office to the telephone poles near users. It is widely used for computer networks, such as Ethernet and other types of local area network.
Coaxial cabling is much less susceptible to interference, more expensive than standard telephone wire, and can carry much more data.
How to Use a Coaxial Cable
First Step – First connect a coax cable to a broadcast Antenna. All indoor antennas use a coax cable connection from the antenna to a television to send the television signal. Older antennas may use an old style u-connector which will require an adapter that can be found at Radio Shack.
Second Step – Then connect a coax cable to a television. Mostly television sets had made before 1980 used a UHF and VHF u-connector that required an adapter to convert it to use a coax cable.
Third Step – Use a Coaxial cable to connect a satellite dish. This cable is used to send the signal from a satellite dish to a receiver in a home or business. Satellite dishes from Dish Network and Direct TV use this cable to connect the dish to a receiver.
Fourth Step – Connect the multiple multimedia components together to television or home theater receiver. A coax cable is a reliable method of connecting various types of video and audio equipment in a home. This includes a satellite receiver, DVD or DVR player to a television or home theater receiver.
Fifth Step – Connect a DVD Player, antenna or satellite to a TV tuner to a computer. For an analog connection, many TV tuner cards use a coax cable. A computer program can be used to watch the video on a computer screen.
Now we hope you can easily use a Coaxial cable for carrying more and more data.
